Project Background and Objective
- Client: PT Duta Marine.
- Asset: to be named
- Location: Adyard, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
- Project Duration: July 2026 – September 2026
- Background: In June 2026, PT Duta Marine completed the acquisition of the Ensco 104 from Valaris/Transocean. The unit was located at Adyard, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
- Objective: Pelago Management was engaged as Project Manager by PT Duta Marine to manage the project from taking over the rig from Valaris, and preparation, mobilization, and load-out of the jack-up onto a Heavy Lift Vessel (HLV).
Projet Management
Pelago’s Project Team, in collaboration with Adyard and Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), meticulously managed each phase of the project.
The preparation phase included yard contract coordination, insurance arrangements, flag and class liaison, third-party interface agreements, and an initial assessment of the rig’s condition and location.
During Phase 1, Pelago Management mobilized the project team, established safety arrangements, verified power and utilities, assessed consumables and operational readiness, and inspected key structural, marine, ballast, jacking, and firefighting systems. Phase 2 focused on safely elevating the rig, confirming jacking system integrity, releasing the legs in a controlled manner, preparing deck securing and sea fastening arrangements, and placing the unit in standby as required.
Phase 3 was dedicated to rig move planning, HLV interface preparation, engineering verification, thirdparty review, and maintaining operational readiness until loadout. The final phase 4 covered the final rig move, HLV positioning and ballasting, loadout operation, load monitoring, final positioning, sea fastening, demobilization, and handover. Due to the political situation in Strait of Hormuz, it was decided to tow the rig to Fujairah to meet the HLV outside the strait – a challenging task Pelago completed with great support from Owners and the third parties involved.
Conclusion
The successful completion of this project demonstrates Pelago Management’s capability to deliver complex offshore projects under tough and demanding conditions. Through structured planning, handson project management, and continuous coordination with the yard, marine contractors, flag state, class, insurance providers, agents, and the client, Pelago successfully managed technical, operational, regulatory, and commercial challenges, including alternative routing considerations and the safe movement of the rig through the Strait of Hormuz. The project reinforces Pelago Management’s ability to provide practical, reliable, and compliant offshore project execution in challenging environments.
